Design & Branding

Design was my first creative language. I fell in love with graphic design in my early teens, fascinated by how colour, typography and composition could tell a story beyond words.

Before It Was My Job

Design was part of my life long before it became my career. I studied graphic design, ran my own Redbubble shop, became the designated designer for family invitations and wedding cards, and spent more than a decade on Tumblr creating GIF sets, graphics and video edits inspired by the stories I loved.

Most of it was simply because I needed to create. Eventually, that work found its way onto Twitter where I was discovered by a sports media startup and offered the opportunity that turned years of creating for fun into my career.

Then It Became My Job

Joining a sports media startup as the sole graphic designer meant there was no blueprint to follow.

Every day presented a different creative problem. One morning I could be designing merchandise that celebrated NHL teams while carefully navigating copyright and trademark restrictions.

By the afternoon I could be creating an entirely new visual identity for a podcast launching later that week.

With minimal creative direction and an ever-growing list of requests, success depended on developing ideas quickly while maintaining consistency across an expanding network of brands.

Reflection

Design continues to shape the way I approach every creative challenge, even beyond traditional graphic design.

It taught me to solve problems visually, communicate with intention and build experiences that connect with people before a single word is spoken. Those same principles now influence my work in branding, content creation, experiential marketing and event design.

While my career has expanded into many creative disciplines, graphic design remains the foundation of how I think. It’s where I learned that every detail matters, every decision has purpose and the best creative work tells a story that people remember.
